At #Amplify2022 last week, the Federal Housing Minister @AhmedDHussen said, "a lot of times you hear words about how youth are the leaders of tomorrow...⁣
That’s not true.⁣
They're the leaders of today.⁣
If you look at their dynamism, their optimism, and their creativity, and their ability to organize...⁣
We cannot solve the big challenges facing us -- with respect to climate change, reconciliation, diversity & inclusion, ending child poverty, making sure we have a safe and affordable place to call home for every Canadian -- we can't do any of that without the involvement and leadership of youth."⁣

As always, #Youth are top of mind; but as we look to labourforce recovery, we must pay close attention to the #BarriersToEmployment they may be facing. Young people are at higher risk of Career Scarring – the long-term negative impacts on career growth and earnings following periods of unemployment – thanks to pandemic upheaval. We must ensure #YoungPeople have access to the mental health, housing, childcare and justice supports to ensure the barriers they face are not insurmountable.

Young people really are our future, and what effects them as a cohort can impact our broader communities. Strong youth employment rates are indicative of healthy economies, not just because they indicate strong talent pipelines, but also because meaningful connection to community via work makes for healthier individuals with more opportunity to grow and thrive.⁣
