Enhance your impact as a practitioner with LaunchPad – the industry-specific workforce training program which applies a demand driven approach to skills development to meet the needs of employers and jobseekers, while enhancing your professional development.

Program course dates: September 20 - December 10, 2021

In response to feedback, the LaunchPad course will be offered at a shortened length of 13 weeks (previously 18 weeks). The 13-week course will focus on the dual-customer workforce approach and how to design industry specific programming using adult learning best practices. This content will support participants to identify a targeted occupation and sector, build partnerships, identify workforce needs and design pre-employment programming to meet identified needs.

The course will also include a module on Trauma Informed Practice and Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression. See the complete revised course outline for reference.

Agencies participating in LaunchPad will design and deliver industry-specific workforce programs that prepare vulnerable unemployed jobseekers for specific in-demand skills based on needs of regional employers, while building resilience, self-efficacy and confidence to support sustainable advancement toward client goals and labour market outcomes.

Clients will be delivered curriculum which is:

  • Asset based,
  • Goal-focused, and
  • Trauma-informed

Practitioners will receive training building on:

  • Adult-learning best practices
  • Demand-driven skills-development
  • Trauma-informed methodology

This is a highly participatory course. Those staff participating (2-3 from each agency) should be comfortable discussing, sharing and learning with peers.

In LaunchPad, participating agencies and staff will learn how to design and implement:


  • Dual-customer workforce programs focused on preparing vulnerable job seekers for specific in-demand jobs
  • Applied occupation-specific skills training
  • Programming to support participants to achieve their goals and be successful on the job
  • In-take and selection processes to build participant motivation
  • A trauma-informed approach in the design and delivery of the program
  • An Anti-Racist, Anti-Oppressive framework while designing and delivering programming and working with employers
  • Structured post program retention supports
  • Implement continuous improvement

All participating agencies will design and implement an industry-specific pre-employment programs which connect barriered jobseekers with sustainable in-demand jobs.

Following the 16-week training, participating agencies will pilot their customized LaunchPad Program. Weekly group coaching will be available for 12 weeks following the training.


  • 18-week (including orientation and a reading week) applied course for agencies who develop & deliver employment and training programs
    • 3 hours of live training delivery
      • 9:00a.m - 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday or Wednesday
    • A 1-hour peer call on Fridays (time TBC with peers)
    • Up to 4 hours per week spent on homework and assignments
  • Highly interactive participatory course involving active engagement
  • Course to be delivered in cohorts with teams of 2-3 staff per agency participating

Program Structure

All participating agencies will design and implement an industry-specific pre-employment programs which connect barriered jobseekers with sustainable in-demand jobs.

Following the 13-week training, participating agencies will pilot their customized LaunchPad Program. Up to 12 weeks after completing the LaunchPad course, participants will receive additional technical implementation support from the Purpose Co team and peers to help troubleshoot issues and share experiences as they deliver their pilot courses.

The course requires a time commitment for 13 weeks total of up to 8 hours per week from September 20 to December 10, 2021. The weekly time commitment breakdown includes:

  • 3 hours of training delivery per week on Mondays, Tuesdays OR Wednesdays
  • 1 hour peer call each week arranged with your agency team and other participating agency teams on Wednesdays (Monday class), Thursdays (Tuesday class) OR Fridays (Wednesday class) at a specified time
  • Up to 4 hours per week spent on homework and assignments

*Dates may be subject to change - Participants will be asked to share their time preferences to determine which cohort they will join in advance of the start of the course.

How will you be supported?

Weekly group coaching will be available for 12 weeks following the training. Up to 12 weeks after completing the LaunchPad course, participants will receive additional technical implementation support from the Purpose Co team and peers to help troubleshoot issues and share experiences as they deliver their pilot courses. The support includes bi-weekly meetings where each agency will have the opportunity to present and receive detailed feedback on their program plan. Participants will also have the chance to receive one-on-one coaching from facilitators and hear from a guest speaker from a successful dual-customer program.

Steps to apply to the Launchpad program.
  1. Complete the agency application below
  2. Upon submitting the agency application, you will receive a separate application form for each of your nominated staff to complete
  3. After submission of all application forms (agency + participants) you will be invited for an interview by First Work and Purpose Co
  4. 4. Upon acceptance to the program, you will receive a confirmation and welcome package from First Work and Purpose Co

This application will take 10-15 minutes to complete. Please note that ALL applications (one from the agency and one from each participating team member) must be received by August 4, 2021. A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 agency team members is required to participate in the course.

Applicants will be contacted by September 2nd, 2021 regarding your applications and the stage two interviews.

The program is valued at $4,500; however, the program is being made available free of charge thanks to funding support from the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.
